When we talk about spiritual evolution many people often utilize analogies that can be misleading. We talk about "spiritual heights" and moving up various planes of consciousness. While these images can sometimes point to an aspect of the spiritual journey or the involution of the soul, they are not indicating what is actually happening as we spiritually evolve.
Our spiritual evolution is actually a process of deepening, that can at times feel like we are soaring to new heights as we identify with the higher chakras, but is in actually a settling into ourselves and our awareness that grows more profound with each level of depth. We've just returned from another amazing and rejuvenating five day spiritual intensive in Morillon France led by our good friends and mentors. The setting was idyllic, nestled in the French Alps we stayed a week in what looks more like a postcard than an actual place where people live.
Aaron and I kept marveling (jealously) at the fact that people actually live in this magical place...seriously though, who lives in these magical mountain villages?! That picture...a real picture (not a postcard) taken from the balcony of the chalet we stayed in all week. Ridiculous.
But more magnificent than the mountains, streams, wild flowers and breathtaking panoramas was the feeling of being with our soul family.
Okay, at first glance soul family seems like more new age jargon, but for the past two years we've come to recognize that the concept is not just more Hippie hocus pocus but rather a very real energetic resonance you can feel with people you'd never imagine you would come to know.
To understand our soul's desire it might be helpful first to understand our ego desire. The best way to do this is to understand how to categorize the ego. We like the Enneagram personality system because it is a useful tool for categorizing human behavior.
Some critics of personality models say things like "the Enneagram just puts people into boxes, and creates division". You may be one of those people so just bear with me.
Indeed the Enneagram is categorical, however, in our opinion, the tendency to name things is an inherently human tendency and has a practical usefulness in understanding the world, when not used dogmatically and inflexibly. Read More
